The history of traditional tattoo has long way of formation and development. The bikers, servicemen and sailors brought fashion for tattoos in people and distributed it in public. At the beginning of tattoos history a lot of people tattooed arms mainly. Some special tattoos could show that a person belonged to some social group. Usually people with an anchor or a star tattoo were identified like the sailors. Or, for example, the logos of Harley Davidson showed that a person must be a biker. At first traditional tattoo industry preferred black ink to colors. But now, with high speed of the development of tattoo equipment, more and more people prefer colorful and bright tattoos.
The history of traditional tattoo (old school tattoo especially) can’t be mentioned without the name of great tattoo master - Sailor Jerry. In 1930’s great amount of tattoo shops in Honolulu were opened by him. He was a real boss of tattoo and his business was successful for many years. At the same time he was sailing Far East and the Pacific as a merchant mariner. He was a master of his craft: he reflected feelings of his clientele in tattoos. In the hands of Sailor Jerry tattoos turned into the way to show your state. Jerry collaborated with many famous and successful tattooists and together they turned simple tattoo industry into art.
Tattoo fashion has spread for all time from the very beginning till our days. For all this time people preferences’ were changing. Now the old tattoos seem faded for young people, more attractive are tattoos with zodiac sings, different flowers (roses, lilies) and lettering tattoos. But the real lovers of the old school tattoos don’t betray “black” tattoos because they know their history of development and appreciate every meaning of the old tattoo.
